Oundle School

Leading UK boarding school gets on board with energy management

Top UK independent school, Oundle School, saves energy and cuts carbon across its campus with smart metering and monitoring from t-mac Technologies.

t-mac Technologies has installed meters in all of Oundle School's boarding houses to provide real-time energy-use data to provide the School with accurate and timely analysis of energy consumption, costs and carbon.

It is through the t-mac software that Oundle School has been able to identify energy consumption and where opportunities for reduction lie.

Oundle School is also set to continue its energy saving efforts by installing t-mac Technologies' latest software – SMART.DASH, the UK's first energy saving dashboard with a dedicated twitter feed.

The new responsive web application technology will change the management of buildings through interactive social media based software. SMART.DASH is designed to enhance energy saving opportunities and encourage active energy awareness from the energy manager but also staff, pupils and even former pupils- 'Old-Oundelians'.

With SMART.DASH, Oundle School can now analyse and quantify its electricity consumption and understand the amount that each boarding house is costing in both energy expense and carbon output and rectify any problems immediately. These energy and cost savings are all demonstrated via the t-mac dashboard. This highly visual interactive dashboard showcases energy saving in real-time on any screen display such as laptops, tablets or mobile phones. t-mac also provides an interactive tool for pro-active maintenance and management by site staff.

Estates Bursar at Oundle School, Richard Tremellen , commented, "Oundle School believes that protection of the environment is an integral part of good institutional and educational practice. We are committed to minimising our impact on and improving the quality of the environment, both now and in the future and seek to engage all members of the school community to develop an ecologically sound approach to their work and activities so as to help us achieve our aims."

Lisa Gingell, director at t-mac Technologies, explains, "Oundle School is made up of buildings dating from the seventeenth to the twenty-first century which are dispersed throughout the town making the establishment an ideal candidate for energy saving potential because of its historic buildings and also remote energy analysis due to its split site.

"Oundle is well aware that proactive energy management is just as important in the school environment as the office. The interactive t-mac energy analysis dashboard can give education establishments not only an energy boost but are ideal for showing pupils how they can cut carbon output. With the added benefit that by visually showing pupils the importance of saving energy at schools, these eco-routines will then follow through into homes and communities thereafter.

"Working with Oundle School is also a homecoming for t-mac Technologies, my brother and business partner Jonathan Wilkinson is a former pupil so truly knows the building inside out."

t-mac Technologies is working with a number of schools across the UK to provide an energy saving and learning framework to enable teaching staff to embed these principles into the heart of school life.
